Some bands make it hard to be constructive, they are just so listenable from the get go. And Envy and Other Sins is one such band. This demo single showcases their considerable ability on their instruments of choice - with particularly strong guitar and vocals. Envy? I bet they get a lot of it because this band ooze talent like a vicar oozes righteousness.
It is big, bold and bouncing off your noggin. This is power pop for grown ups, indie for adults - sod the kids. Except this is just the right sound for teen angst too... god they really have covered all bases. Looking for a comparison? 'Prodigal Son' does have an eerie similarity to Muse at their stadium pounding finest. The lyrics are smart, "you'd burnt your bridges before you even took a peek round your bedroom door" perfectly captures the alienation of the outsider, the loner who finds solace in his i-pod.
But to compare them to Muse is misleading, they don't have the pomp and prance across all their tunes and this is a good thing. Check out the web site for more of this band's sound - definitely indie, definitely rock, and most definitely worth five minutes of your ear space.
The news off the presses is that an album will be forthcoming from these fine sinners, book your place at confession now because these boys want your soul and you will be offering it on a silver platter.
