Amy Studt releases her latest single, 'Nice Boys', taken from her My Paper Made Men album on 1st March and it has to be said, this is definitely one of the songs from the album that could make a big impact.

Taking the song superficially, it's got a great beat and incredibly catchy chanted chorus and that's probably enough for most people. If you want to look a bit deeper, the lyrics have plenty of bite and the angst level really does take this into alt-pop territory.

It starts reservedly with sweet piano and soft vocals. There's a taste of where the song is headed at the end of the first chorus but it's just a tease and it eases back into the verse. The way the song swings between the delicate sections and pumping group vocals places it in unique territory. Enough Tori Amos for the more adventurous, plenty of Vanessa Carlton for the pop crew and something of The Ting Tings crossed with the cast of Annie for an edge of unpredictability.

As well as the single, there are a few remixes around that make more of the pumping beat and less of the piano, which will please dance fans everywhere. For me, though, the original is the best and it's a crucial purchase for 2009.
