Avondale 45
Xmas Time / Viva La Revolution

Avondale 45

Despite the numerical name, which hints at an American punk heritage, Avondale 45 are from Portsmouth and Chichester and supply an old school punk sound straight out of the seventies.

'Viva La Revolution' is quite a rhyme-tastic song with the odd line or two that can really make you cringe. Having said that, the chorus is reasonable and the overall feel is true to the influences of this band.

The festive flip-side 'Xmas Time' is written from the point of view of "an angry, bitter man who's first love left him a previous yuletide" and it certainly conveys the angst. The comedic high-pitched vocal section is a laugh out loud moment before the chorus loops round and round towards the finish.

There's an explicit version of the song up next, followed by two live tracks recorded at The Lazy Moon.

Avondale 45 aren't about to ignite the punk scene, but they are far from terrible.
