Resurrecting the eighties, specifically Jane Wiedlin and Tiffany, Awesome Wells pay homage to their love of Danni Minogue in the eighties-pop song, 'Danni'. This is a really good song that reminds us all of a part of the eighties that we'd all forgotten about! The female vocal adds homo-mystique to the lyrics, which always goes down well in a music video (anyone remember Tatu - of course you do!)
'XX-XY-XU', 'You've Got No Business In The Fashion World' and 'Tramp Family' are more like The Undertones with raw guitars and a wavering vocal. It's still got the eighties feel to it, but that punk attitude is dripping out of every note in the melodies and the whole feel of these songs is more malevolent than the sugary opener.
It's not uncommon for girl bands to head off down the punk route, but Awesome Wells are doing it well.
