At the risk of utterly hacking off Aycliffe Sunz right at the outset, I've got to ask the obvious question - where are the vocals?! Aycliffe Sunz seems to be the labour of love of one Ste Guy. Ste certainly has a way with a rocking groove and a melodic guitar hook. Citing as he does, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride and the Pixies among influences, this EP is sure to please a fair sprinkling of shoegaze fans. Opener 'SF2' is 100 seconds of intensely melodic guitar fuzz, while 'Band of New York' clocks in at the positively laborious 1 minute 48 seconds, and is quite a ride. Closing track 'Dance With Me' is another strong piece, with a clever amalgamation of guitar and keyboard lines, all of which leaves you wanting more, to be honest.
These pieces sound under-developed, simply because they lack vocals, and fail to progress beyond extremely clever original ideas and riffs. There's definitely a lot of potential here, but it has yet to be fully realised. Keep your eyes on this one.
