Barry Allen kicks off his promo with the complimentary (and suggestive) 'Down There', which might be mistaken for an overtly sexual song - except I'm far too innocent to understand why.
This is an up-tempo song with a plaintive and innocent vocal, which is a stark contrast to what the lyrics suggest. This is art-house melodrama with knobs on.
'Ridicule' demonstrates Barry's choir-credentials as he angelically delivers the melody. The lyrics are a bit more "single entendre" this time around, telling the story of a downtrodden man.
Allen is an unusual offering; a voice raised in the aisles with a song-writing style that's far more honest and earthly. This kind of music is never going to burst through the mainstream, but those who enjoy the more eclectic sounds it's certainly a prospect.
