A Contradiction In Sound EP

Bugs and The Collaborators

Bugs and the Collaborators begin their album in an upbeat fashion. The chords jump and bounce putting a spring in your step, and while the vibe makes you feel good about yourself, you really wish you were walking into a room full of 'Beautiful People'.

This moment though is short lived. As the band put in all their effort it can begin to seem false, and much like the record, you don't notice the door you're using said pull and not push. You slam your face into the glass and are forced to take a step back. Okay, you say to yourself, maybe moving on will help.

'A London Tale' rejuvenates your spirit. Its beat keeps your foot tapping and the catchy lyrics keep you singing to yourself. But this time you find the door is locked. Using more effort doesn't pry it open and the longer you try the more tired you get.

In a clichéd bid to slow the pace, 'Beacons of Light' might just help to show you the way. It's a calmer more relaxed approach but still the door won't open. The plodding rhythm of the record is beginning to make you frustrated and as the lyrics to 'Truth is Fiction' are thrown at you like a bad Robbie Williams song, it really can't help you get where you want to go.

You're confused, still standing in front of the door, and wondering what on earth is going on. But your feelings aren't a surprise. While listening to Bugs and the Collaborators you feel that the band hasn't quite managed to get to where they're going. While one minute they sing with attitude, the next they want you to feel their saddest emotions, all the while, not really doing it themselves.

Bugs and the Collaborators aren't quite ready to open the door and move into a sound that suits their style. But when they do, and focus their music to a target audience, they might find that once they're inside, the room is full of middle aged men drinking pints and loving every minute of it.
