Caplyn

Caplyn kick off their Looking For Chetson EP with a very strong guitar-band sound. It has the vibe of a seventies record, with the grit of a nineties post-grunge band.

The record begins with 'Shadowesque', which is a rock stormer with a hooky guitar riff and a chorus that benefits from some quality backing vocals.

'Cherokee Prayer' is like Audioslave merged with Interpol, mixing indie-edginess with alternative pedal-hopping. The vocal has Grohl-esque hoarse-ness and this is definitely the leading offering on this record.

They do get a bit too retro-sounding in 'Gill's Song' with it's screwed-up-eyeball solo-fest and Led Zep breakdown, but as if they've scared themselves with this close-call they come out of the blocks for the smouldering 'Time Never Forgets', which gives the record a big change of direction with its anthemic feel.

Caplyn are very talented and they show plenty of promise in this record. They do need to make sure they keep it original and fresh, like in 'Cherokee Prayer', but if they bear that it mind, they could go far.
