Chemical Wire are a surprising band. They come from Portugal with their clever ideas on how to create a killer song with lots of chops and changes and expect us to come over all adoring.
Well, I can tell you after one listen to 'Bees', their master plan has worked. What an excellent song. Subdued moments crumble into sudden explosive sections and the whole song flows uncontrolled in a cascade of brilliant unpredictable hooks.
'Super Lovely Modern Sadness' is just as good. It's sparky and tight with nice guitar rhythms. It has an excellent way of switching constantly from a stuttering beat to a fast flowing rhythm and back and when that might get predictable, something entirely different happens.
It's very hard to find songs that are so hard to pin down, yet so good to listen to.
We rated this record 4 out of 5.
