Is this the first of the Christmas records? No. Christmas Jones, whilst named in a timely manner for a December review, are a band without a single sleigh bell or kiddie-school backing choir.
What we have here is a fat slice of guitar led rock with crunchy keys and a wonderfully sandy vocal.
'Goodbye' has a very current sound, with Klaxons and The Killers mixed into the hooky tones. It's got edge too, though. The flood of keyboards adds a great Captain-esque melody and the vocal smoulders in a way that's more emotive than your average rock band.
It's even better in 'Inside', which kicks off with a dirty riff before heading into grungy-rock territory a la Thirst. A nifty time signature in the verse adds some pepper to a very salty track.
Asides from having some familiar drum fills (a bit too akin to the last song), 'Enemy Within' continues the quality of the record and it never lets up The angsty 'Pick Up The Pieces' and the cool wired sound of 'I'm Not So Out Of My Mind' finish off and it really is one hundred percent pass mark for Christmas Jones.
Undoubtedly, this record will remain in close proximity of the CD player for quite some time.
