We recently caught up with Clipson to chat about his future as a solo artist and about his new independent record label.
Do you prefer the freedom of being a solo artist or did you prefer being part of a group with 'Fire Camp'?
I do prefer being a solo artist rather than in a group, I can express myself 100% and put my efforts into my own work rather than a group. I enjoyed being in a group but the freedom of being solo is an experience I'm thriving on and I'm earning new things for myself all the time.
You've worked alongside quite a few big names, Lethal Bizzle, Ozzie B and 2Face to name a few. Who else in the Grime scene would you most like to work with?
There's a few producers I would like to work with such as, Davinche, Wiley and maybe even Calvin Harris. In terms of MC's I think the likes of Bashy, Chipmunk, Baby Blue and Big Narstie would really compliment my style.
What inspires your lyrics?
I write a lot of tracks based around the reality of my life and others around me. Also legendary artists such as 2Pac, Biggie and Bob Marley to name a few really inspire what I write and also how I deliver on a track. Bob Marley inspires me to release my emotions via singing and 2Pac and Biggie inspire me to think out of the box and write some serious verse's while using my own experiences that the listeners can relate to.
You've set up your own label A.B.T.M are you planning on helping out other aspiring MC artists?
I'm a very big fan of the UK scene and part of the reason we opened up the label was to reach out to talented artists that maybe weren't being heard or noticed, so there's a definite plan to help other artists out and the door is open for new, up coming talent.
What can we expect to see from Clipson this year?
I'm currently working on my 3rd mixtape entitled 'The Rebirth', I chose this name because it signifies my change from being in a group to being solo. This is currently the best music I've made so far and it's definitely something to look out for. I've also recently shot a massive video for my latest single 'The Weekend' and I have a lot of plans to shoot more tunes from the mixtape. I'm trying hard to re-establish myself so there's lots of things to look out for.
Any thing else you'd like to share with our readers?
Thank You to the people supporting my music already! You can find me on Twitter, Myspace and also you can check out my new music video 'The Weekend' on Youtube.
God Bless
Clipson
