Gioia left the music scene many years ago when he was robbed of his life savings by a fraudulent investment in an indie-label. It took an even bigger event to return him to his singing, when he was almost killed in a car crash. Despite having all the excuses in the world to peddle a depressing record, Gioia's music is full of positivity.
'Angel on Your Shoulder' is a powerful and emotional pop ballad. You can feel the weight of inspiration in this song in its pure passion.
Possibly the most current sounding song on the record, 'Angel Child' has a really strong chart sound with plenty going on with the synth bass line and an appropriately shimmering chorus.
With a chunky rhythm and big chorus, 'Real' is going to get people onto the dance-floor. It's a solid dance track with big vocal layers that speak of a Justin Timberlake influence.
Susan Smith contributes her massive soulful voice to 'Turn U Out', which is a great collaboration with plenty of space in the mix. This track has some beautiful synth work, which shimmers beneath the two strong vocal performances.
'Free' has moments reminiscent of Backstreet Boys, with a choppy beat and energetic synths.
Last track, 'Flawless', is another danceable pop track with a strong melody. The chorus is a big one, giving this song real potential as a single.
Gioia might be offering up pop and dance music, but the songs are substantial and the lyrics are meaningful. This is a highly credible record.
We rated this record 3.5 out of 5.
