The Land, The Ocean, The Distance is the huge, melodic and aggressive EP from Hertfordshire hardcore outfit, Heights.
'Paint The Sky' is the star of the show for me, with a massive wall of guitars softened by atmospheric keyboards. This song has a good combination of vocals and is full of big, big tones.
That's not to say there's anything wrong with 'Empires', which is the song that kicks off the record, it's just a softer introduction to this band before the more aggressive tracks.
'Worlds Apart' is quite visceral, with a contrastingly melodic vocal section that takes the sting out of the venomous "burn in hell" lyrics. The group chorus is shattering and the song has more impact than an out of control juggernaut.
Heights are a great example of melodic-to-the-max hardcore with no compromise in the heavier moments.
