Let's Tea Party

Bristolian bright-sparks Let's Tea Party are thoroughly nice guys. You'd agree should you meet them. Their happy pop songs will fill you with warmth, and urge you to hug strangers. Currently touring their Walter Benjamin EP, the West-country trio will be sure to illuminate the darkest toilets of Britain with their funk-jams and hand-claps. I made their acquaintance at Hamptons between sound-checks and a cheese procuring excursion to ASDA. The band are: Sam (vocals, keyboard, flute, pots and pans), Richard (guitar and bass) and Johnny (drums).

So, the story behind the name?

Richard: We were sat at Boston Tea Party, and at the time we couldn't settle on a band name. This name struck us and it sounded wholesome, and that is what we want to portray.

How's the tour going?

Johnny: It has been going splendidly well. We've been lucky, played some cool venues with some great bands. Played a sold-out gig in our home town last night, which was mental.

What is the most absurd thing you've seen on tour so-far?

Richard: Saw a couple having sex in a quarry in Guildford, going for it at the side of the road, which was nice.

What is the most beautiful thing to happen to the band on tour?

Johnny: Seen some beautiful sun-sets on the M4 and M1.

Richard: Waking up next to Johnny is quite a beautiful site, especially when he grunts.

Your music is warm and bouncy, where do you get the spring in your step from?

Richard: ASDA's Blue charge or any high impact stimulation drinks!

Johnny: Each other, we get stimulated by each other.

Sam: We're just about having a good time and spreading that vibe to other people.

What's an average Let's Tea Party jam like?

Sam: First things first, we strip to our pants.

Johnny: We listen to some Sting to get in the zone, and then we do battle. We all bring different things to the table and push ourselves in different directions. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't.

What guests, dead or alive, would you invite to a perfect tea party?

Richard: Sting, to tell him how great he is.

Sam: I'd like to chat with Barack Obama right now, as predictable as that might sound. Just want to sit him down and ask him what's going on.

Johnny: I think Kurt Cobain would've been a bit of fun.

What's next?

Johnny: Were going to release a double A-side in the latter stages of April. One track is called 'Hot Chip' the other 'Emaneulla.' and we are just putting the finishing touches to them now.
