Lonesome Jonesome is one interesting project. Derby-based musician Chris Jones writes material that is at once both intensely melodic and insanely quirky. Armed only with an acoustic guitar and some curiously yelped falsetto vocals, this should be a musical bad traffic accident, but it is far from that.
Clocking in with four songs and just under nine minutes' playing time, this EP is over all too soon and leaves the listener craving more. 'Shopgirls' the opener, gets you in the mood, before 'I Don't Like Your Happiness' passes by in what seems like a flash. 'The Eater' has a stunning slide guitar-sounding riff and more melodies which defy you to sing along, while closer 'You've Got a McDonalds' closes things off with yet more quirk for your pound.
This is certainly unusual stuff, but is great to hear such an imaginative project being birthed and finding an audience. This EP is just one of several recordings Chris has produced, and I would venture that they are all worth checking out. If you want to journey to the places your mind never lets you go, let Lonesome Jonesome help you along the way.
