There have been some great records passing through The Mag headquarters recently and Lowstar are another band with plenty of talent. What they have on top of some clear and present ability is a layer of unpredictability that makes every song sound a little bit dangerous.
'Alphabet Blues' isn't a blues track, as the title may suggest, but a rock song with wiry guitars and brilliant bass. It has a great verse and a chorus that sounds like one of Enter Shikari's gentler moments. In fact, it has everything you'd expect from a good rocker, but with subtle details that mix it all up a bit. It could be a sudden noise, a distinctive guitar sound or the changes to the vocal, but in any case it makes a big difference.
'Drone' and 'Connected' are ace too and even though this might not be the polished production of a well-oiled machine, it has a rawness and inventive spark that many bands are missing.
