We recently caught up with Mlini to talk about their new single Movie Scene/Open Road.

Your new single Movie Scene/Open Road is released on 5th July. What was the inspiration behind these tracks?

Movie Scene was one of those tracks that just came together really quickly. It's a bit of nostalgia from watching too many retro 50's movies. I guess what ties these two tracks together are 50s black and white B-movies about teenage beatniks with pocket knives and stolen car road races. Imagine Pavement writing the music for Grease!

Will you be taking your new material on tour?

Maybe but for next few months we've got plenty of other stuff on our plates. We're going straight back into the studio to do more recording.

How long did you spend recording the new single and did you have much say in the overall production?

Not long at all, we got all the tracks down over a couple of days at a converted oast house in the middle of nowhere in Kent. Recording to 8-track tape sped everything as you can't edit afterwards. We went for a raw, live sound and mixed the songs ourselves, so yes, absolute control over production.

Will there be a video for the new single?

I'm certainly hoping so. Mlini in 3D!

What can we expect from Mlini in the next year?

Lots and lots of noise! We have a big list of songs written, so back into the oast and then releasing one or two or singles next year.

Anything else you'd like to share with our readers?

A quick thank you to all those that have helped us so far, and a nod to all the explorers out there in 'The Mag' land! Best wishes, Mlini
