Mlini are exploring the many pathways of lo-fi rock, citing references such as Low, Neil Young, Pavement and Sparklehorse.
'Movie Scene' flips vocal effects from wet to dry to create an odd contrast during the verse. The guitars and drum beat are reminiscent of the theme tune to The Munsters Today, but as played by Flight Of The Conchords.
It all gets a lot more promising in 'Open Road', which has a lot more simple authenticity to the sound. It could be a lost Radiohead demo mash-up up with a classic Scott Walker beat and it sounds really classy.
This really is a record of two halves. I really wasn't that keen on the first track, but 'Open Road' could well be one of my all time favourites.
