Night Portraits have returned, but there's something different about this band. Very different.
'Place I Love' is a chunky track with a substantial vocal to match the big sounds this three piece create with their instruments. It's exemplary in every area, but more importantly - this song has got a big fat melody and a chorus that could knock down an unsuspecting pedestrian.
Maintaining (and possible raising) the quality of the single, 'Fortune's Fool' is an absolutely brilliant rock track with a few indie hints under the surface. It's got a great structure, leading you through an appealing verse and gently into a soaring chorus, with added musical ambience in the breaks.
Night Portraits sound like a new band with this single. It's got a maturity of sound that isn't hinted at in their sultry, youthful faces on the cover. Absolutely brilliant.
