Olympian

This is yet another throw-away indie-rock act that will be tossed onto a mile-high tower of uninspiring dross. They go by the name of Olympian and they possess none of the qualities that make one. Dynamic, agile, poised, supple, aesthetic... none of these words spring to mind when listening to their bite-sized burp of banality. Okay, so, athletes they ain't, but as musicians, they're a javelin throw away from being medal winners.

Their warm-pint tuneage is the sort that sticks to the floors in the emptiest city haunts. It is pub-rock at its plainest, flattest and weakest.

Olympian are to Kaliber what Oasis are to Stella Artois. And this stuff is really hard to sink.

The intro picking sequence of 'Room For You Inside' conjures up the spirit of 'Don't Fear The Reaper'. When it kicks in, however, it distantly resembles the mad-for-it swagger of those cheeky Mancunians. A swagger it seems that has turned to a stooping hobble due to a string of botched hip replacements. We've all heard this three-chord-wonder tripe before, in the same characterless boozer, no doubt.

'Fastlane' is more of the same, but shifted to acoustics. It trudges and turns like a belly full of ale induced flatulence. As the track ends, you can almost detect the half-arsed hollow one-hand clap ('cause the other is holding a flat pint of Carling) of pity, quietly resounding in the pub next door.
