The Lines of Reason LP

Pitchblend

It doesn't take long to make you mind up on this record and the bad news is you have to wait until the 18th of February for this superb LP. To put it quite simply, Pitchblend roll together a ton of genres including metal, rock and EMO into an album full of top quality tracks.

Opting for melody rather than aggression doesn't blunt the edges at all, there's still bite to these songs and they've afforded themselves the freedom to slip between the styles as they desire. In fact, this album transforms continually, moving swiftly from the heavier tones of the opener into some epic territory, with EMO elements residing in the odd chorus or two, before a late return in more metal-influenced album-closers.

It's this flow that makes the album work so well as a collective work, at a time when digital singles are becoming more fashionable. The Lines of Reason deserves to be played from start to finish, including the great instrumental links that are unlikely to be hit downloads in their own right.

In terms of individual songs, there are plenty of great moments here, with six unfeasibly good ones supplying options for a single release. The opening triplet of 'Sirens', 'Celsius' and 'Design Our Own Escape' provide a great taste of this band's potential.

Look out for Pitchblend, the name guarantees a grant musical feast.
