This is metal! In their Myspace "Sounds Like" description, Summa tell us that they are comparable to "The combined girth of a column of Challenger Tanks!" Although I've never measured the combined girth of such a column, I can assure you that this assertion is not far from the truth.
Summa are hard, fast, heavy and defiantly uncompromising. Opening with 'Slight Right', this EP shows them twisting and turning through a series of technically impressive avenues, so that by the end even of the opening song, you feel like you've been treated to a mini symphony, rather than a mere five minutes fifty-two seconds. What is pleasing about this record is that, while all the primary foci of metal are defiantly in place, melody and tone play an important role. Even at it's heaviest point, this is much, much more than your average thrash-about. These boys can play.
For an indie release too, the depth of sound is impressive. The guitars reach out and hit you like a punch in the face on 'Divergent Address', while the rhythm section throughout the record is like an unstoppable juggernaut.
It seems as if Summa are back on the road again after a break. They would certainly be worth 30 minutes of anyone's time, especially if you are looking to get your face melted off!
