The Assassination Of

The first EP from the Liverpool five-piece rock/post-hardcore band, is reminiscent of Glassjaw with an upbeat edge but with the same energy!

Kicking off with the excellent 'Just for Thrills' a mid-paced track with catchy hooks, the sarcastic lyrics contrast with the harmonised chorus nicely, making this sure to be a crowd pleaser at any gig. Frontman, Peter Bushnell, has a mature vocal style that conveys the emotion behind the music very well.

There is some real musicianship going on here, with both guitarists working hard to provide a full and varied backing to the vocals. The drums have a bright clattery sound with busy kick drums, which lift the beat and wouldn't sound out of place on a Vision of Disorder track.

The EP maintains its pace through the five albeit short tracks and is to the point and full of life. The track 'Distress Calls' has the makings of a future single with a poppy chorus and catchy punk riffs to get even the most resistant muso's foot tapping.

The record closes with the longest and title track 'From What You Know' - a varied paced number starting with a capella vocals. The song starts slowly and builds up to a full sounding chorus.

This is a nicely produced EP and anyone would be forgiven for thinking that this is not the band's debut release. Fans of Glassjaw and Kids in Glass Houses will love this band, which sits nicely between the two.
