The City Calls

The City Calls slam down a record full of power-pop-punk sounds. The songs have instant appeal, thanks to strong melodies and neat beats.

'Heroics' has a big intro that slides into a tuneful verse. Things get cranked up as the chorus approaches and when it arrives, it's got plenty of hooks to push things along. Unusually, it's the verse that draws you in on this track, rather than the sing-along chorus - and that's why I love this track.

Chugging along in the verse and demanding the crowds to join in for the "whoa-oh-oh" group vocal, 'It's Your Fault' keeps the record moving along.

'Flaunt It' is a bit different to the other tracks, with the rhythm and energy (but not the piano) of Something Corporate, mixed in with The City Calls' rocky sound. There are lots of quality harmonies interspersed with the main melody.

The EP finishes with 'Those Eyes', which has more of a EMO feel. They bundle in some more of those tight harmonies and really punch out the pace on this song.

The City Calls sound great on this record - they've really captured these songs well and put enough unique flavours into each one to make it appealing in its own right.
