The Huge is the alias of an enigmatic Italian singer / songwriter and The Colossus Killed The Giant is the epic album, of which we've been given a sample two tracks. In the words of the man himself;
"The Colossus Killed The Giant is a long trip that lasted four years. I wanted to put songs that could trace my movements from one city to another and its effect on my life."
And if you haven't got the hint yet, this is an epic record, with powerful piano roots supporting giant instrumental branches. In 'If You Take Me There' the initial piano and synth-string combination beautifully backs up a really good voice in the verse. This then builds up into a driving chorus with tight drumming and even some guitar. It's a soulful indie-pop ballad of the highest order.
'Father' is more mournful, with rich strings and a muted beat backing up the warm piano tones. The vocal is strong once again, full of the emotion of the song.
The Huge have an amazing sound, led by that awesome voice. There is a plethora of texture to these two recordings and the musicianship is exceptional.
We rated this record 4 out of 5.
