The Rocky Nest have supplied this very-self-released demo with a handwritten inlay that contains all the lyrics. It's individually numbered too, so I can only hope they didn't do a run of a thousand or someone will still be sat in a basement somewhere writing out the cards.
Musically, we have a rich blend of country-indie with male and female vocals softly directing us through the tracks. It's a bit like Pavement's Twilight Terror album, with a lo-fi attitude, but soft edges and a general cleanliness of sound.
There's also something of The Beatles in the first track 'The Good Lord and Sister Lovers', with a deep trombone and 'Get Back' style guitars.
The final track, 'This Promising Life', has a rather beautiful sound, starting with a cute call and response and bursting gently into life as a smouldering lullaby with twinkles on.
The Rocky Nest have done a reasonable job on this record, capturing a dusty cornfield sunset and etching it very individually onto record.
