White Water

White Water, a three piece from Norwich, here present a five-track EP. The band count Semisonic, Goo Goo Dolls and Dave Matthews Band among their influences, and this is the kind of ballpark we're in here. 'Smoking Gun' the opener, has some strong ideas, and a nice vibe, but sadly suffers from some iffy vocal tuning and a few guitar tuning issues, which, whilst not really detracting from the overall feel of the demo, do show the limitations the boys have with regard to recording budget.

The songs on the rest of the EP are similarly strong. 'Highway South' has a nice blues rock feel to it, while 'Down to the City' takes the tempo down for a moment of beauty. 'Lonely Summer' is a more straight-ahead rocker, while closer 'Autumn Blossoms' is another beautiful song built around an acoustic riff. Chris Walker seems to have a strong voice, while the band certainly have a good ear for a pop melody and dynamic nuance.

Since the release of this demo, the band have recorded a further batch of songs, which show a vast step up, even from this very promising debut. These tracks are available to listen to on Myspace.
