For me, this record goes down as a near miss. It's close enough for the event to be logged and investigated, but it's not near enough to cause over-excitement.
'Cinenema (Axis of Evil mix)' is a good song. It's not quite great, but it has a lot of good points; like the stabbing guitars and bass and the muted metallophone sounds. The vocals capture the energy of the song and the beat pumps it along and then it's over and you've pretty much forgotten it straight away.
The stomping rock meets buzzing guitars sound is continued in 'Sick Sick Sick', although it's more angular as a reflection of the social-lyricism.
The biggest hit of the single is undoubtedly 'N.O.' with some great drumming and awesome guitar tones throughout. It also has the strongest hook on the entire record thanks to the melodic chorus. This is the singular most impressive song on the record, showing a completely different side to the band that's much more memorable.
It's an odd feeling this. You do feel like you're discovering them when the track is blasting out, but twice on this record you find that you've un-discovered it all just moments after it's gone. Bravo for the final song though.
