40 SOUTHAMPTON BANDS JOIN TOGETHER FOR PREHISTORIC DOUBLE CD!
Over 200 Southampton musicians have joined forces to energise the local music scene by showcasing their best tracks on a 2 disc CD 'JURASSIC MARK: VOLUME 1'.
The new CD is being given away free in the city on the 7th of March to simply promote the talent and skill Southampton bands have to offer.
The 2-disc CD is the brainchild of Southampton musician Ben Dlugokecki who helps run 'Jurassic Mark', a music showcase of local acts held weekly at the Talking Heads music venue in Portswood.
"This is the best songs by 40 bands across Southampton, but there are well over 150 great bands in the city" Ben says. "We have such a fantastic music scene, but there are many people who don't come out and listen to live music. We want people to hear our songs and this seamed a great way of introducing people to our music".
The CD is being launched on the 6th of March at the Talking Heads with nearly ALL the bands gathering for a few drinks, a massive photo shoot and then a party! Then there will be a showcase of 5 of the bands and a DJ.
The CD features Southampton band Dlugokecki whom have played with Snow Patrol, David Gray, Lulu and Starsailor, had music played on C4's Hollyoaks 5 times and are confirmed on the line-up at this years South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas in March.
The Rebs opened 2008's V Festival, playing on the same stage as the Kaiser Chiefs. They also played in front of 24,000 people at last years Guilfest and will be appearing alongside The Warm on the CD who have also played with Snow Patrol, but also Scouting for girls on a number of occasions.
Also HourstilAutumn were the band played before Bon Jovi at St Mary's Stadium last year in front of a sell-out crowd.
Everyone's invited to come along to celebrate Southampton's talent at 6:15pm at the Talking Heads on the 6th March, you will be able to take some photos, chat to the bands, have a bit of food and pick up a copy of the CD.
