Following the success of the show in Hampstead in 2008, The Real London Ensemble Theatre Company is staging Reality Chokes at the Edinburgh Festival 2009. The production will now run at the New Town Theatre (Universal Arts), George Street (near the Assembly Rooms) for over 3 weeks from August 5th - August 30th, 10.15pm - 11.30pm nightly.

The play is based around four young men with nihilistic ideals who stick two fingers up at the corporate establishment of 1970's Britain and form a punk band Sonic Generation. The years pass, and reality and middle age strike, leaving the sex, drugs and rhythm of the bass guitar simmering below a surface of vanishing ambitions. The call of "one last gig" still lingers, forcing a few home truths to the surface and when Plod calls up his old mates for a band reunion, it's obvious the proverbial's gonna hit the fan. Rob and Dan haven't spoken since their on stage punch up at a gig 20 odd years ago. So what will happen when they all meet up again? Will their junkie drummer even make it? This darkly comic play about midlife crisis, features live music from the punk era.

Reality Chokes is a black comedy about lost love, thwarted ambition and mid-life crisis. It is a poignant and funny look at what happens when unresolved conflicts resurface in men who refuse to grow up.
