Teenagers are shunning free illegal downloads in favour of paid-for film and TV content, according to new research by the largest virtual world for teenagers, Habbo Hotel, on behalf of the Industry Trust for IP Awareness. A poll of more than 4,000 11-18 year olds reveals the large majority of teenagers are choosing to spend their cash on the real deal: just 25% use unauthorised sources to obtain films and TV shows online.

Today, the UK film and TV industry will launch a new set of cinema trailers that thank young film-fans for their support through buying genuine DVDs, Blu-ray discs, legal downloads and cinema tickets.

The series of four trailers pay homage to famous film moments from Sixth Sense, Toy Story, Jerry Maguire and Reservoir Dogs. They're directed by Steve Bendelack (League of Gentleman, Little Britain) and voiced by Bafta-winning British actor and director Noel Clarke. Their strap-line, 'You Make the Movies', reinforces the direct relationship between buying legal content and funding film production.

British writer and director Nick Love, who wrote and directed films such as The Outlaw, Football Factory and The Firm, is lending his support to the new trailer campaign. He said: "It's important that young film fans continue to visit the cinema and buy or download the real deal, because by choosing legitimate versions they help to fund the programmes and films of the future. They make the movies!"

Liz Bales, Director-General of the Industry Trust, said: "The You Make the Movies trailers are part of a long-term education drive by the industry to show consumers the very positive impact they have on the future of film and TV when they support legal content and respect copyright - and thank all those that choose to do so."

Oisin Lunny, Country Manager, Habbo UK and Ireland, said: "The Habbo survey highlights that accessing content digitally is fast becoming the norm for young people who want to be able access film and TV whenever they want it. This makes it more important than ever to make teens aware of the positive impact they have on creativity in the industry by buying their content legally."
